It definetely looks like a rudist. You probably didn't find it in rock, because I think he fell from that ridge that consist of red sedimentary rocks. In my graduate work (which was mostly consist in collectig rudists) all of them were found in a red limestone with some corals. They both (rudists and corals) are reef builders. If you find that these red rocks are from Cretaceous that give more chance in that "rudist theory". Of course for the precisely determination of specie this fossil had to be cut.
