: : I am currently gathering specimens/ donations for an elasmobranch fossil exhibit.
: : I have a couple of potential donors lined up for specimens of P. benedini.
: : Can anyone give me the going rates for their teeth, say in the 1.5 to 2.5 inch range, for tax purposes?
: : Thanks in advance,

: Dear Puppy,

: Parotodus benedeni are considered rare on a worldwide basis. Immaculate Pliocene specimens in this size range such as those from Lee Creek go for $75-150 per specimen; waterworn Oligo-Miocene specimens such as those from the Cooper River, SC go for about $50-75.
: Waterworn examples from Cadzand, Netherlands are significantly less, maybe $30-40. I hope that this helps.

: Dick
