: Actually, I've been looking over some articles posted in the Bulletin of the Southern California Paleontological Society in 1991, and I think that this shell looks more like Paterina prospectensis. Please tell me if I'm wrong!

I am forwarding a message about Early Cambrian Brachiopod IDs.

Hope this helps,

Heh...good luck...apparently the phosphatic lingulid/oboloid brachs are in a horrid state of disarray (at least according to discussions with Dr. A.R. (Pete) Palmer of the Institute for Cambrian Studies...unless they're uncrushed (i.e. preserved in limestone in 3d as opposed to shale), they're notoriously difficult to differentiate, and have rarely been modernized from their original identification by such luminaries as Walcott and Resser.

Your best hope is to consult the original documentation describing the brachs and identify from the descriptions and/or illustrations.
