The whole nymph was inside the nodules. The nodules have several characteristic shapes and vary between +/- 4-6cm. It takes between 3-7 days to dissolve the concretions using the dilutions we used. A change of the HCl was usually necessary midway. There is no need to use resin to cover the specimens as they are composed of silicon dioxide in the form of chalcedony.
Several other compounds can be found as replacement materials but we lacked the ability to carry out a proper analysis.
