Fossil identification

Posted by Claire Milne on September 29, 1998 at 12:28:57: To Peter, Many thanks for message and the interest in the fossil.. you asked about the local rock. In the immediate area of the fossil site, and for quite a large area around, there is the "tombstone" slate...however, a nearby high ridge contains a red sedimentary rock and it is from this direction that the stream comes. However, the fossil and the stream may have nothing to do with each other!
