An update from a "first-timer" on the Marble Mtn./Latham Shale Trilobite Site near Amboy CA (visited 03/18/06): we understood from a fellow fossil-hunter that the motel in Amboy is now closed. Next, there were eight of us digging in various locations at the site for about six hours and we found nothing. An experienced trilobite collector came by in the afternoon, said we were digging in the right places, couldn't find anything himself in a few hours, and left. So I'm posting this to let other first-timers know of our experience, and also to ask if anyone out there could take the time to hear the details of what we did, and tell us what, if anything, we did wrong? This website made it sound like we'd find fossils fairly easily, which was not the case. Perhaps Internet visibility has led to the site being tapped out?
