Yeah, it might be a bit tricky to find the right spot but digging is definitely not necessary if you know what you're looking for (which is 80% of the problem; usually they are very small (1/2 inch or so), faint, and covered in a thin layer of yellow dirt, very easy to miss).... The hillside is scattered with just loads of pieces and parts (whole cephalons etc..) from others who decided to dig deeper and not scrutinize their tailings. And, I've noticed a new spot closer to the road that has been opened up and as far as I can tell that location is nothing more than a dry hole, so hopefully this is not where you were looking.
