Brett, I'll admit we really didn't know exactly what to look for, but all of us were looking pretty closely; we found tiny dark "imprints" of plants (?) in the rocks, and the kids found "algae balls" on the south side of the hill just south of the shale site, so we were really trying. 1/2" sounds a little smaller than what we had heard; maybe that was part of it. But in looking at the trilobite photos, none of us saw anything like them at all. We also saw a "hole" in the hill to the east of the path about halfway from the parking area to the site, and wondered what someone was doing; maybe that's what you are referring to. We took the path up to the small hill with all the shards lying around and lots of evidence of digging, so I think we were at the right spot. Just need to try again, I guess. Can anyone recommend a good book re: trilobites and how to "harvest" them? Thanks.
