I am sorry you did not find trilobites, it is a great site.
If you took the short way to the site from the end of the dirt road on the side of the mountain, you were probably misled by the diggings a few hundred yards up. Past that is a deep gully about 100yds wide then up the other side at a steep angle is the real site. I have been there three times. I was fooled into wasting my time at that first area for a while too. At the real site there is no way you can miss the trilobites. Just climbing up the steep slope about 100' there are several 1-2 foot deep holes around which you can see many partial trilobites in the discards without even bending over. Go again, even the kids will get their own fossil.
